Senior Accountant in the AIG Life and Retirement Group will be involved in reviewing and analyzing monthly and quarterly activities performed by offshore team members, special projects as needed and process improvement/efficiency initiatives. Activities include analytics, reporting by legal entity and some regulatory filings. The senior accountant should have advanced Excel skills and be able to maintain and modify complex spreadsheets used for reconciliation, analysis and reporting.
The key to success in this position is being proactive, detail oriented, dependable, focused on identifying opportunities to improve existing processes, willing to share ideas and recommendations and exhibit exceptional organizational skills. Moreover, the position must be able to communicate, sometimes technical data, succinctly and accurately across various staffing levels.
Organization Structure and Interfaces
This position reports to the Director of Reconciliation Management. This position works closely with Financial Reporting, Investment Accounting, Treasury, Internal Audit and other internal and external business partners.
Use SAP general ledger and Microsoft Excel to review monthly financial reports, journal entries, trend reports and analysis. Research to understand trends and variances, clear reconciling items and communicate with appropriate staff to resolve issues and escalate issues when appropriate.
Develop reports using SAP, Microsoft Excel and BlackLine Systems to facilitate review and account analysis.
Ensure all reporting deadlines, due dates and requirements set by financial management are met. Maintain appropriately documented support and monitor internal controls. Respond to ad hoc requests as needed.
Identify process improvement opportunities to automate and streamline workflow and strengthen controls to ensure the accuracy of data.
Develop relationships with members of other departments to facilitate resolution of issues and stay informed of potential future issues.
The Ideal Candidate will have
6+ years accounting and analysis experience required.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting CPA certification a plus.
Ability to analyze data and research accounting and financial issues.
Strong communication skills enabling them to work effectively in person, on the phone and via email with other departments to resolve issues.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. Technical expertise must include strong knowledge of Excel, SAP accounting and general ledger systems.
Experience working in a mid-to-large, complex company environment is preferred.
