The University of Florida is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Controller for Finance & Accounting. This position oversees and provides effective leadership and management for Auxiliary Accounting/Educational Business Activities. It provides financial oversight and guidance for University auxiliary operations; coordinates the Service Center Rate Review; prepares quarterly Auxiliary Enterprise Review Committee Meeting Reports; and provides financial reporting assistance to auxiliary personnel as required. The assistant controller also performs on-going risk assessment activities and monitors the adequacy of internal controls within auxiliaries/educational business activities. The position assists in coordinating internal and external audits as well.
Review processes and procedures to identify operational risks related to auxiliaries/educational business activities. Create and maintain a repository of risks, and work with management to prioritize and implement risk mitigation activities.
Perform on-going review of the processes and procedures related to auxiliary accounting to ensure effective and efficient operations. Develop and communicate reports that outline findings and recommendations for improvements.
Monitor and assess compliance with laws, policies, administrative rules, and other guidelines governing operations within auxiliaries/educational business activities. Develop and communicate reports that outline findings and recommendations for improvements.
Assist staff liaison in coordinating audit responses and follow-up on audit findings with internal and external auditors.
Coordinate the design of various reports and reconciliation training, including tools, tips, and tricks to improve training aids for departmental financial representatives.
$70,000 - $85,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.
Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.
Licensure as a State of Florida Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting standards, and internal controls.
Excellent communication skills are required as well as the ability to work with individuals at multiple levels.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft or other ERP systems and highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Must have the ability to understand various business processes and translate them into technical solutions.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
