Atrium Health Sr. Medical Director, Physician/APP Well-being in Charlotte, North Carolina

Primary Purpose:

This role will serve as a critical member of Atrium Health Medical Group Leadership team and will partner with the Southeast Chief Physician Executive, Advocate Health Vice President of Well-being for All, and co-lead directly with the Advocate Health lead for clinician leadership & development, along with other key stakeholders to develop and lead well-being and clinician leadership & development initiatives with the goal of improving the professional experience (including physical, mental, and emotional well-being) for physicians and advanced practice providers. This leader is both an administrative and clinical provider position and would be practicing in the provider’s training and will play a pivotal role in promoting and enhancing the overall well-being, resilience, professional development, experience, and satisfaction for physicians/advanced practice providers within Atrium Health. This position involves developing and implementing comprehensive well-being, leadership & development programs aligned with Advocate Health enterprise Talent & Culture, Well-being and Experience philosophy, strategies, goals, tactics, and analytics and the institution’s “Best Place to Care” initiatives. This position will collaborate with key stakeholders in fostering a positive and supportive culture empowered by psychological safety and ensure a healthy and thriving learning and working environment.

Major Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a strategic vision for clinician well-being & leadership development initiatives aligned with the mission and values of Atrium Health and collaborate with senior leadership across Atrium Health including physicians, learners, and Advocate Health to integrate well-being, clinician leadership & development into the overall clinical, research, education, and service goals. Participate in health system-level efforts to drive improvements through the Best Place to Care strategic initiative.

Program Development : Co-Lead with administrative counterpart to design, implement, and manage comprehensive well-being, leadership & professional development programs for Atrium Health physicians/advanced practice providers, identifying and addressing the unique challenges experienced by physicians/advanced practice providers in different environments across Atrium Health. Actively contribute to and integrate with Advocate Health’s broader enterprise well-being strategy and well-being programs, fostering a collaborative and interconnected approach to improving the well-being & professional development of physicians/advanced practice providers.

Inclusive Well-being and Mental Health Support : Work closely with available support resources and services to meet diverse needs of physicians/advanced practice providers, including but not limited to mental health programs and equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion initiatives.

Work-Life Integration : Implement initiatives to promote physician/ work-life integration and reduce burnout and reduce turnover among physicians, developing programs and policies to support well-being, aligned with overall enterprise well-being strategy.

Community Engagement : Foster a sense of community and connection among physicians/advanced practice providers and other constituents, organizing events, workshops, and activities to promote well-being, connection, and camaraderie.

Collaboration and Communication : Collaborate with various departments, across the health system, to integrate well-being into all aspects of physicians/advanced practice providers experiences, communicating regularly with stakeholders to assess needs, gather feedback, and provide updates on well-being, leadership & development initiatives.

Scholarship : Contribute to scholarly products and work to increase Atrium Health’s and presence and preeminence nationally.

Reporting Data and Insights : Develop relevant reports and metrics to measure and monitor the impact of well-being and other targeted programs for physicians/advanced practice providers. Responsible for partnering with Advocate Health Data & Insights team for data management and utilizing data to inform well-being strategies and measures of success.

Enterprise Integration : Ensure alignment Atrium Health’s approach and programming with the broader strategy of Advocate Health. This role plays a key part in integrating physicians/advanced practice providers well-being & professional development initiatives into the larger enterprise framework, facilitating the exchange of best practices and fostering synergy for mutual success.

Education:

Qualified candidates are those who possess a terminal (M.D.) degree with knowledge and experience in well-being, leadership & professional development. Administrative academic and clinical experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong organizational and time management skills. This position also requires the ability to collaborate and a commitment to teamwork. Candidate must be able to mentor and advise constituents, as well as solicit needs and develop programs and materials that meet needs.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in advancing a culture of well-being and supporting the leadership & professional development of clinicians; ability to work with and support a diverse community; a track record of strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive professional relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels in complex, highly dynamic environment; be strategically minded, able to think creatively around program goals and the steps necessary to achieve those goals; ability to act deliberately in sensitive situations; demonstrate strong conflict management skills; possess sound judgment and ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism; and demonstrate the ability to lead and to develop professional staff teams.
