    Job Description

VICE PRESIDENT FOR CLIMATE, Office of the President, to provide strategic leadership and direction for MIT in climate-related research, translation, innovation, education, and public and industry engagement. Will inspire bold action across the entire MIT community and its partners by leading the Climate Project (https://president.mit.edu/climate-project) and its various missions and building it into one of the world’s most collaborative and prolific sources of climate solutions. Responsibilities will include developing and sustaining relationships within the MIT community and externally; working closely with and ensuring collaboration among other climate and sustainability-focused units at MIT; serving as the lead MIT officer responsible for setting priorities and working with industry, financial, and other academic leaders and with federal, state and local government officials on climate-related issues; and leading the Climate Project’s fundraising efforts. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: extraordinary record of intellectual, strategic, and managerial accomplishment in climate and sustainability; keen understanding of the climate challenge; demonstrated ability to lead a dynamic, creative, intellectually deep and action-oriented research community; record of translating research results into real-world solutions; and ability to build and sustain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, uniting a range of individuals from the public, private, and third sectors around a shared mission. Must be a leader, problem-solver, boundary spanner, and creative convenor with leadership experience in research, education, or innovation in a climate-related field, ideally having managed research and/or administrative staff; and outstanding communication skills across sectors and disciplines.
