What We Are Looking For: Assistant Director - Langan School
The Assistant Direct - Langan School c ontributes to the mission of the Center, the Childrens’ Services Division and the Langan School by providing hands on direction, support and supervision to Bachelor and Master level Special Education Teachers within the Langan School. They will work collaboratively with Education Administrators and the teachers to develop, implement and evaluate the individual education plans for all assigned students according to program guidelines and to direct the teachers in the management of staff. They will supervise and direct the work of assigned special education teachers. They will have significant input into hiring, coaching, disciplining, and termination of assigned teachers and paraprofessional staff. Incumbent will serve as a floating/substitute teacher when necessary.

Responsibilities:
Provides direct supervision (in the classroom setting) to assigned special education teachers
Provides modeling as necessary in order to maximize student achievement of learning objectives;
Reviews curriculum for effectiveness and consistency on a regular basis, providing direction as necessary;
Reviews lesson plans, student IEPs, alternate assessments and report cards, providing input and/or direction to the special education teachers as necessary;
Provides regular performance feedback, coaching and counseling including annual performance evaluations of special education teachers in conjunction with education administrators;
Provides, advocates and/or arranges for ongoing professional staff training
Provides direction to special education teachers with respect to classroom orientation of new staff and new students;
Promotes adherence to accepted educational standards, contemporary philosophies, compliance with regulations governing the educational program and compliance with departmental/program policies and procedures
Provides direction to the special education teacher with respect to disciplinary action of classroom staff as necessary, involving education administrators and consulting with Human Resources as needed
Collaborates with education administrators for coverage of long term absences of teaching staff
Represents the Childrens' Services program, specifically the Langan School, at division, program and departmental meetings, as well as at occasional meetings with outside agencies and/or professionals
Participates in team planning and development activities
Provides direction to the special education teachers with respect to effective teambuilding and retention of highly qualified Langan School staff.
Provides direction to special education teachers in regards to developing staffing/operating information for budgetary purposes
Functions as a Substitute Special Education Teacher as necessary
Requirements:
Masters Degree in a field of Education Administration, Special Education, or General Education
NYS Permanent Teaching Certification in Special Education
At least 3 years of job related experience, specifically in the field of Special Education
At least 3 years of professional supervisory experience
Must be at least 18 years old and able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds to apply for this position
The salary range for this position is $78,270.40 - $92,830.40 and is commensurate with experience.
