Physician Assistant-Transplant Surgery Title: Physician Assistant-Transplant Surgery Location: Upper East Side Org Unit: Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation Work Days: Monday-Friday Exemption Status: Exempt Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $146,700.00 *As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices Position Summary Under direction, performs history and physical examinations. Establishes a presumptive diagnosis and performs a general work-up including the ordering of appropriate laboratory studies. Under supervision, is responsible for the patient's medical issues following the diagnosis. May assist medical staff with pre, intra- and post-operative surgical activities and research projects in assigned area. Job Responsibilities Under the direction and supervision of the responsible physician, performs clinical procedures, such as venipuncture, arteriopuncture and electrocardiogram. May administer IV medications, fluids, blood & blood components & local infiltrative anesthetic. May administer injections I.M, subcutaneous & intradermal. May perform intradermal skin tests, nastrogastric intubation & insertion of urinary catherers. Prepares and dictates patient summaries of hospitalization. Attends daily rounds and provides post-operative care on floor by checking for signs of post-operative complications, changing dressings, removing sutures. Assists the physician as directed in the training of health personnel in diagnostic, therapeutic and clinic techniques. Participates in appropriate continuing education programs. May perform research activities including assisting at laboratory surgery, collection and reporting of data. Retrieves and reviews charts and analyzes data for research projects. Prepares and dictates patient summaries of hospitalization. Initiates appropriate noninvasive laboratory, radiological and special examinations or tests required for the evaluation of illness. May provide pre-surgical patient care for diagnosis and write pre-operative orders. Starts IVs , monitors equipment and alerts surgeon to changes in the patient's condition in the Recovery room or IUC. May provide post operative instructions to patients. Under supervision of the responsible physician may cleanse and debride wounds. Performs examinations on patients; consults with the patient's physician; establishes a diagnosis and initiates the work up of the patient by ordering laboratory studies. Responsible for management of the patient's medical issues following diagnosis. Provides appropriate adjustment of medications for patients in accordance with established protocols or specific instructions from the responsible physician. Orders oral and parental medications for patients under the care of the supervising physician. Communicates with patients & families regarding their medical issues following consultation with the physician. Provides counseling & instruction regarding. Collaborates with other caregivers to ensure continuity of patient care Education Bachelor's Degree Experience Graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program from recognized college or university. Approximately 2 years of clinical experience as a PA in a physician practice or hospital setting, preferably within a related specialty. Up to one year of post-degree course work and/or an internship and less than one year of previous experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated experience in communicating, and developing relationships, with clinical staff and ancillary services. Licenses and Certifications Current New York State Physician Assistant License & Registration Certification from the National Commission of Physician Assistants, Inc (NCCPA) Working Conditions/Physical Demands This position requires the occasional lifting of equipment and patients. This positon might result in exposure to mechanical/electrical/radiant/explosive/burn and chemical hazards. May be required to handle, dispose of and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials.
