Job Summary:

Trane is hiring a Preconstruction Executive Project Developer to join us as part of the NA Energy Services Preconstruction team covering the US and Canada. This role will report to the Director of Preconstruction, Energy Services. This role serves as one of the NA Project Development subject matter experts (SME) for strategic energy services sales through channels commonly referred to as Complex Solutions, Performance Contracting and Large Turnkey. In this role you will be responsible for leading by example in the regions to develop and grow the region capabilities in acquiring and executing energy services projects and the adoption of NA project development standard work.

Key activities will include working with Clients and Regional team members on sales and sales strategy, client and opportunity qualification, preliminary and detailed audit scope development, team, and audit management (Schedule/Budget) during preliminary and detailed audit and assisting the team with contract development and Client presentations.

Responsibilities:

Strategy, Mission, Vision:

  • Participate in Energy Services strategic planning and leadership across NA to deliver world class sales and solutions to customers.

  • Create and execute plans to drive regional office implementation of key technologies and programs such as enterprise project management software (Procore), measurement and verification offerings, and other energy engineering related initiatives or technologies.

  • Anticipate industry changes and position, reposition strategy to respond to change; stay abreast of external market conditions, tax incentives, technologies, and internal requirements.

  • Partner closely on areas of strategic importance to the energy services business such as compliance / regulation, subcontractor/engineering/consultant qualification, digital services team, contracting to service/M&V transitions, and pull through.

Maturity advancement:

  • Through matrix management, provide leadership, coaching, and oversight for the energy engineering and M&V leaders in the comprehensive solutions and turnkey business stream in our regional offices.

  • Work with regional energy services and HR leaders to establish required capabilities and staffing levels of the energy services organization and to establish and sustain a healthy pipeline of energy services talent.

  • Participate in creation and delivery of training programs for energy services associates.

Business & Operations:

  • Assist regions with Client qualification and meetings during the acquisition phase of the Comprehensive Solutions Sales Process

  • Coach opportunity technical qualification including Preliminary Audits, Benchmarking, Site Surveys, and Interviews

  • Lead regional audits for HVAC, Lighting, Controls, Renewable Energy Systems, Water, and special systems and recommend improvements for reducing or controlling usage or for comfort or production improvements.

  • Lead regional Detailed Audit Activities including the development and pricing of the scope for the audit; scope development for the ECM/FIM; consultant and contractor qualification and selection along with Request for Proposals for their work.

  • Plan and work the audit schedule; develop and manage the audit budget.

  • Review the consultant and contractor deliverables to Trane during the audit and approve progress payments as appropriate.

  • Plan and participate in the Client meetings and site visits; plan, prepare, and assist in the presentations to the Client.

  • Prepare and review the audit deliverables; plan and execute the quality control reviews for deliverables.

  • Support regional office achievement of project budget development hours objectives in the energy services business.

  • Partner closely with product management and tools teams to provide voice of business and customer, forecast needs, support new product/technology, and tool adoption, and respond to field issues.

  • Standard Work:

  • Accountable for needs identification, development, deployment, and adoption of standard work in the energy services businesses in the regions.

  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing of effective countermeasures and strategies as standard work across regional offices.

Financial:

  • Comfortable engaging at the “C Suite” level in customer’s organizations.

  • Assist with defining Client objectives and business drivers.

  • Ability to offer business judgment on the investment of time and resources for opportunities.

  • Understand the impact of planned actions on the achievement of financial goals.

  • Establish and utilize visual management to accurately predict resource utilization within the regions and project development resources across regions.

  • Ability to identify and quantify risks while maximizing customer value and communicate them to the team and management during LOA reviews.

  • Coach sales/development teams on the preparation of large performance contracting jobs for executive LOA approval.

  • Provide internal Energy Services communications flow to management and extended team members.

  • Model and reinforce the business’ vision, mission, business values, Code of Conduct and people values.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Energy Services marketplace, including 10 years of experience leading project development teams with executive stakeholders

  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with all phases of energy services and performance contracting projects with associated direct experience including engineering, technology, design and development and measurement and verification.

  • Demonstrated experience in Energy Services sales, and development, with preference for in depth experience in the Municipal, University, Schools, and Hospital, (MUSH) or Commercial and Industrial (C&I).

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Lean principles and tools for strategy planning and problem solving.

  • Ability to influence others and lead groups to achieve goals with and without direct authority.

  • Ability to collaborate and thrive in a team environment.

  • Proven track record of successfully driving adoption of new programs and delivering growth.

  • Ability to travel Nationally (up to 50%)

Critical Competencies:

  • Communicates effectively with regional business leaders, product management, technical support, and other stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Has deep understanding of HVAC system design and manufacturing principles, current and legacy Trane energy services, competitive energy services systems, and major HVAC market participants.

  • Provides effective group training and drives engagement both in person and through technology.

  • Analyzes projects or opportunities with available data and provides feedback on business and technical merit.

  • Leads cross-functional teams to deliver initiatives using lean practices and tools.

Annual Base Pay Range - $142,800- $189,200

Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed. Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan.
